Yellow Yeorling

The other day someone asked why in the world do I have a blog. My first response was, because I am super and awesome. But that didn't seem to truly answer their question. For reality purposes I have a blog because I am very funny and my thoughts are just too awesome to keep to myself.

Reasons that I, Elizabeth Menzel, am an awesome person:

  • I can make any person laugh.
  • I often get a case of musical turrets. (When songs randomly pop into your head and you sing them at the top of  your lung in public)
  • One day soon it will be opera day which means I will sing all day instead of talking to people
  • My birth day falls on Labor Day this year
  • My RA partner, Boyce and I, both have September bdays. Which means a joint birthday party is in store
  • I can scrapbook like an awesome person
  • I overuse the word awesome
  • I paint my nails to relieve stress, I have over 60 different nail polishes. Be jealous
  • I go to UNCP
  • Snails can be purple
  • Tomorrow is Thursday, and yet all day today I thought today was Thursday
  • I refuse to like Harry Potter books/movies
  • September 5th will be the 2nd anniversary of my 21st birthday
  • I get to work with these awesome people

This is basically all of the Oak Hall staff. Except Gerald and Ashely aren't with us anymore and Sarah Heard is missing from the photo. Most of you have no idea what the names mean but for the few who do understand, You are Welcome.

  • I will one day own the most sucessfull vineyard ever
  • Giraffes are awesome and I will own a bunch someday

  • I live in Pembroke for the most part, like 9 months of the year, and thank goodness for popular stores like this one. Just admire the proper naming of this store.

  • I have a rap for my friend Sarah Heard it goes like this. "Sarah Heard, Sarah Hear, Sarah Sarah Sarah Heard, I say Sarah you say Heard. Sarah, Heard, Sarah, Heard." Boyce and I made that up and we feel the need to rap everytime Sarah enters a room.
  • I am a good person and convinced one of my residents that, Nikki Wever also one of my residents, is french. She is not french at all but we tell people she is because we say her last name in a very high pitched voice and with a certain inflection. Obviously this is how the french talk.

So this is the famous Sarah Heard (she is the tall one) and the french-not-really-french Nikki Wever (Short with Eagles shirt on)

  • When I get bored I make fantatstic artwork on manila folders

  • One day Nikki Wever, Besh, and I went to Kissimmee, Florida for a road trip.

A little scratchy because it was taken from a car window

  • If you are reading this then you agree that I am an awesome person, and you know understand why I have this blog.

Enough Said

On Friday my mom, brother, and I are flying to Michigan for a memorial service for my Grandpa. Keep my family in your prayers.

    Xanthic Xantusiidaes

I have come to the conclusion that there is way to much going on in my life right now, although I wouldn't have it any other way. But in order to keep my self a little sane I have decided that I need an assistant, just to help me get through the day. I am not asking for too much but life is crazy busy and dramatic right now and I could sure use a break, or maybe a month long trip to some place tropical, like the private islands my friends Vanka Vance and Sunana Elizabeth Chatrath are supposed to be purchasing very soon.

Alright the application process has begun. But I am not taking just anybody, there are a few simple guidelines that one must follow in order to even get an interview.

Guidlines/responsiblities you must agree to uphold and carry out

    1. Give me a credit card with a bill I never have to pay
    2. Get me a 4.0 in school
    3. Get me into a fantastic grad. school
    4. Paint my nails fun colors
    5. Go to my early class for me so that I can sleep in. If I don't get the proper amount of sleep how can I possibly be a good boss to my assistant
    6. Buy me awesome things from awesome places
    7. Cook gourmet meals every night
    8. Clean my room for me once a week
    9. Take test that I don't think will be easy
    10. Assists Blackboard assignments
    11. Read books and insert the knowledge dirrectly into my head
    12. Must be a funny person who can constantly make me laugh. I hate boring people.
    13. Follow me around and act like I am famous

So these are just a few requirements, if you don't think you can meet them then don't even worry about reading any more into this blog. Now some of you might be thinking that this makes me seem like I want to be lazy and just lay around. UNTRUE. I'm just trying to employee people in an economy where most are losing their jobs. So actually you are welcome. And there will of course be compensation for a job well done, I am not a mean person.

The big and scary Irene never actually came to Pembroke. It rained for maybe an hour this morning and that was it. It is just very windy. I guess that's a good thing, but I find it funny because so many people were afraid of what was going to happen when the hurricane hit the school. My mom and brother made it safely to Michigan, YAY!!!! I was worried since Irene seems to be so extreme but it sounds like they made it there just fine.

    • Goats' eyes have rectangular pupils

Let's start off on a great note. It is Collin's birthday today. He is now 19, his last year as a teen and the last year he doesn't have to be an adult. Although he is in college so I guess he has to semi be an adult. But anyway I really hope he has a great birthday!!

So I know that you all constantly stalk my blog and because of this you are well aware that my Grandpa Menzel has been sick for awhile. He has been in the hospital since maybe late June/early July. He has never been able to return home and I was constantly worried about him. He passed away this morning around 4 am. It has been a really difficult day although most people probably couldn't tell because I tend to hold my emotions in. I do not like when people feel sorry for me. Amway, I know that he is in a better place and he no longer has to suffer. I am going up to Michigan next weekend to be with family. My mom and brother however are flying up tomorrow and I hope they have a safe flight. Please keep them in your prayers.

"Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints" Psalms 116:15

My Grandpa was a strong Christian and I know he is know resting with God.

Alright Irene, you are causing great despair for many people and frankly I am annoyed with you. I am tired of hearing about you and you need to stop hogging the news. Go away and don't come back, no body likes you. Although you sure make the sky look pretty awesome.

    Truths of the Day:

    Walking Waters

I am HILARIOUS. Many people don't really understand my humor, and that is fine but I think you need at least some sense of humor. I hate/ don't understand people who have no sense of humor or those people who always seem so serious. I am a very friendly person and I always so hi to my residents in the hallway and I make a point to ask everyone about their day. But it is very difficult to be nice to someone when they act like you are the biggest inconvenience of their day. But it's fine, I will just have to start acting cold towards them, their fault not mine.

I have started re-listening to my Buckcherry albums.

    "For the Movies"

Do you remember all our love
did you get back from what you gave
I see some symptoms of a past
    that you forgave
    You never were expendable
you always made me feel alive
And now we're in the middle of transition
    In our lives

A change of pace could really do some good

    She's leaving...
    An empty case
But your bringing back the show
    I'm leaving now...

Wake up and see the places

it's all you got and all you take
You don't have to fall to pieces
    you have to prove it
Make up your pretty face it's a lovely trip
    a lovely place
You got one life here to make it
    for the movies

Do you feel singled out do you feel

    less than all the rest
    You know it's interchangeable
    that spotlight and the pain
I want to get on top of this
I want to build that trust again
And if I give it all I got I'm sure
    you'd do the same

Again I face the fear in this

I see a place for you and I
I want to make the most of it
    our passion never dies
And if you don't believe in me
I'll choose a path and change your mind
And you can take me to your room
    or wherever you may hide

    Unison Ukulele

Today was a very relaxing and uneventful day. I went to lunch with Besh, Maria, and Nikki. It was so much fun. Although that is to be expected since we always have fun together. We then went to the Verizon store because my voice mail has a major attitude, and while they were very friendly they were less than helpful. But oh well that just means that when I have some free time I will be calling up costumer service and enjoying some time with them.

These are the lovely ladies I had the pleasure of dinning with:

Due to the fact that my day was and still is very uneventful, except for the whole homework thingy, I have little to post to you about. But I did find this and it should make your day.

A card I saw today while out on the town

So I get a quote or lyric of the day sent to my phone by an app. that I have and this was it about a week ago but I still like it.

"Live your life, take chances, be crazy. Don't wait cause right now is the oldest you've ever been & the youngest you'll be ever again."

    Trusting Tulips

Not much going on except for the fact that the mundane task of going to class everyday has begun. But it really hasn't been to bad yet, but we will see how long that last. I am actually really excited about starting the yearbook class. The first was today and I feel completely lost, mainly for the pure fact that I have no experience in this area yet.

I am still trying to learn how to "let go" and just except that somethings happen because they are supposed to happen.    But really it is so hard to accept the fact that somethings happen just because.

    Always love Eminem

    This is a hilarious movie!

Saw this and thought "Truth" I am guilty about gossiping but isn't everybody? At some point or another we all gossip but spreading rumors hurts everyone and I know that for myself it is really important to watch out for them. This has become more prevalent to me because I have freshmen on my floor this year and they are still in high-school mode and they will do anything to hurt someone who they don't like. I notice this so much during meditations, which my partner Boyce and I seemed to do tons of last semester.

Hope you enjoyed the few pics. that I found.

    Enjoy the weekend!

    Sinical Shoes

Yesterday while Boyce  and I were sitting in the 4th floor hallway doing room check-in's, we realized that we were tired. Now it would not have been very professional of us to just fall asleep on the job so we had to think of creative ways to make time go by faster. The most logical way was to do some 90's music Karaoke.

    We sang to:

    "The Freshmen" by Verve Pipe

    "Lullabye" by Shawn Mullins

"It's been a while" By Stained

    "Jumper" by Third Eye Blind

"If you could only" see By Tonic

"Hanging on by a Moment" by Lifehouse

"Here's to the Night" by Eve 6

"Everything You Want" by Vertical Horizon

    "Father of Mine" by Everclear

"When I Come Around" by Greenday

"Can't You See" by The Marshall Tucker Band

    Love these songs.

Today was the last day of training and we did a presentation of what Res Life means to us, tonight. It was so neat and fun to see what everyone did for their presentation. I did a poem that reminded me of my Oak Hall staff and what they all mean to me.

    A Family Of Friends
    Author Unknown
You'll find there's a family of friends living here,
    a small group of minds, and hearts;
With some of us clever and some of us not,
At times you can't tell us apart.

There's one who is cranky, and one who is shy,
    And one who is really uncouth;
And just when you think you have discovered who's who,
    You'll really uncover the truth.

The truth that we're all just a little of each,
A group of imperfects are we
And sometimes I might criticize them to you,
But don't ever knock them to me.

'Cause the one thing that ties us together for life-
no matter how far we're apart,
Is love for each other, a family of friends
A small group of minds, and of hearts.

I do not usally like cheesyness like this but this really spoke to me.

    Remaking Respect

I am so sorry that I have been gone for so long. I am very aware that many of you have found it hard to live but don't worry a new post will begin shortly.

A lot has been going down this past week. I came back to school on Tuesday for RA training. I was looking forward to training because it looked like we were going to have some fun sessions. There are always the not so exciting ones like CPR and First Aid Training. It doesn't matter who is leading them or what is going on they are never fun. It is three hours that I could be doing something else, but like the awesome person that I am, I tried to make it fun and think of the good aspects. One is that I can save a resident if they are in trouble. The other is the fact that I assume that I basically have my MD and I am a doctor. This means that I can save a life. I don't have my certification cards yet, but it just the little details.

Oak Hall also made an amazing banner for our building.

Boyce Friday (my RA partner) and I made yet another amazing board. It is called "Sea Your Future at UNCP" We always make amazing boards and this one is just another example that 4th floor Oak Halls RA's are the best. But we don't like to brag about how fantastic we are, because like I said in an earlier post, I am very modest.

Classes start in less than a week and it is really starting to make me realize how fast this summer went by. I still can't believe that I am back at school. But I am for sure glad to be back, I truly missed my Pembroke family and I am very aware that every single person missed me!

    Quiet Quest

This may come as a surprise to most of you but I am an accomplished artist. This is a very true fact, I even have my own gallery. Now I am going to show you these pics but they aren't copyrighted yet so DO NOT steal them. I am trusting the entire world by putting them on the very private world wide web so that everyone in the world can see them.

How amazing are these artworks. I must admit however that my teacher, a 5 year old that I babysit for, should be given most of the credit for this work. She did do most of these but I wanted to show off what awesomeness we can create. It is totally understandable that you are jealous but I can't help it if I am taught by the best.

    Pink Palindrome

The countdown has begun. In exactly a week I will be back at school and enjoying some intense RA training. And like a responsible adult I have not starting packing, I will be waiting until probably Sunday night or even to make it more exciting maybe I will wait till Monday morning!! I am truly excited to go back to school and see everyone but at the same time I don't want to leave my friends here at home. The summer has gone by way to fast and I feel the need to rush everything into the last week and there just isn't enough time in the days.

Today I helped Vanka clean her apartment to get it prepared so that she can move all of her stuff in. I am very jealous of her and I have decided that she needs to give me her check book and credit cardssss and I will gladly decorate her place. Luckily she has very good taste and similar to mine so it is obvious that she will love anything that I buy her with her money. So Vanka get ready, I will buy you stuff and you can pay the bills.

So I saw this today and I feel like I may have found the Christmas gifts that my family and friends will be getting from me this year. It is called, Big Stinky Fly Trap, and check it out!!

Let me explain how this amazing product works:

Fly Trap Gets Rid of Fruit Flies and Yellow Jackets

Big  Stinky Fly Trap™ Lures’em, Traps’em, and Kills’em; ridding barns, stables, kennels, and patios of common flies. The Big Stinky Fly Trap™ is the first truly successful scientific approach to complete fly control.  Scientist and inventor, Bill Brown, utilized his extensive background in organic chemistry to develop the Big Stinky Fly Trap’s™ unique fly control method.

Lure’em. The Big Stinky Fly Trap™ first lures in those pesky flies by taking advantage of the “sex scent” of female flies.  Initially, a special fly attraction fluid is mixed with raw fish or lean meat to get the Big Stinky Fly Trap™ cycle started.  Flies are attracted to this ideal egg-laying formula and find their way to the Big Stinky fly Trap™.

Trap’em. Once lured in by the attracting scent, those horrid flies and other common garbage flies enter the one way blackened duct and become trapped inside the container of the Big Stinky Fly Trap™. The female flies, now trapped inside, give off a sex scent attracting the male flies to the Big Stinky Fly Trap™.

Kill’em. Once trapped within the Big Stinky Fly Trap™, both male and female flies are digested with enzymes. These enzymes release a scent exceptionally attractive to more female flies, luring the next batch right in. The Big Stinky Fly Trap™ continuously repeats the cycle; ridding the outdoors of flies, fruit flies, yellow jackets, and common garbage flies.

With the Big Stinky Fly Trap’s™ outstanding effectiveness, you soon find yourself overloaded with thousands of dead flies. Big Stinky Fly Trap™ users are astounded by how many flies the Big Stinky Fly Trap™ really kills. The Big Stinky Fly Trap™ byproduct is an excellent fertilizer. Wisconsin State Testing Laboratory has found flies contain a significant quantity of nitrogen, potash and phosphorous. Just bury the flies six inches deep near the roots of slow-growing trees, shrubs or flowers, and watch them grow!  Buried flies make a great fertilizer as they produce larger than normal plants.

This is directly from their website so you know it is for real. Check out the entire site:

I hope you are all ready for Christmas. This is such a beautiful piece of lawn art. It will not look tacky hanging from a tree in your yard.  I am so excited to give these out that I may not be able to wait until December 25, you might be getting it on November 2. Because I can for sure wait until at least then.
