Truth: Last Thursday my friend Katie (who is also bad with directions) and I had to pick up some girls for this girl scout troop that we help out our used- to -be leader with. We both love and working with these girls because they are so much fun and love everything that we do. Well Thursday we were taking all of the girls to the doctors so they could get physicals before the go to camp at the end of July. Well we were only in charge of picking up two of the girls, before the directions were given to us we were told.
“Elizabeth and Katie, I am going to have you pick up these two sisters because there house is really hard to get to and I have never been there before so I am leaving this up to you two”
1. why in the world would you have two people who admitted they are bad with directions, go someplace that is hard to get too and you yourself have never been to?
Well naturally my face looked horrified, but luckily very detailed directions had been typed up for us.
Word for Word directions that were given to us. (obvs. I’m leaving out the name of the streets)
1. Turn right onto ...... heading North
2. Cross over......Street and continue straight on.....
3. At the bottom of a little hill not more than a quarter of a mile is.......Avenue: Turn Right onto.....
4. Take the second right onto .....Avenue. There is a yellow fire hydrant on the left that is a land mark for the rich on .......
5. Go through several stop signs. There will be a church on the left. Right after the church start looking for a sign on the right that reads “SKYLINE VILLAGE”, black and white not fancy
6. Right after the sign there is an official speed limit sign 35 mph on the right. YOU ARE GOING TO TURN LEFT IMMEDIATELY AT THIS SPEED LIMIT SIGN INTO AN ALLEY. It looks like you are turning immediately before an apartment building which faces .........Avenue
7. There will be an apartment building on the right facing the alley that is set back a bit away from the alley
8. The next apartment building facing the alley is closer to the alley. That is their building. If you count the door starting on the right hand side as you face the building, they are the 2nd door
9. You can turn around at a little store which is right past their building on the alley
Okay so after reading these directions several things jumped out at us. First I was thankful that they were so detailed because I do much better with land marks when it comes to following directions.
So the #’s 1-2 are pretty simple, but # 3, there were many hills that we went down, and the one that we were supposed to turn right at the bottom of, was def. more than a quarter of mile away.
So way to confuse for the first time.
#4, there was in no way a yellow fire hydrant
Confuse us for the second time
# 5, we went through 1 stop sign not several, there were many churches on the left, and that “SKYLINE VILLAGE” sign that is supposed to be black and white not fancy (she should have just said very ghetto looking because it was literally a white board with black spray painted letters on it)
Confuse us for the 3rd time |
# 6 was a little odd because of the Caps. Turn into an alley? Ummm no thank you. Because when the two of us pictured an alley we think of this:
Reality:
This was in no way an alley, she should have just said an unmarked road.
Confuse us for the 4th time

Also that 35 mph sign looked more like this:
Confuse us for the 5th time |
#’s 7-8 just sign crazy confusing and the apartment building was never identified to us but luckily we had other paper work with us because if we didn’t have that other paper work, we would have been knocking on a bunch of rando doors looking for these two girl.
Confuse us for the 6th time
All in all Katie and I would have been totally lost if we hadn’t been with each other, also luckily we had a GPS with us because we were quite confused by these directions.
So now you can all feel very sorry for us but all be so proud of us because we did all of this with basically no confusion. Oh and look we got a hand drawn map that helped us none. But thankfully that map did say “not to scale” in case there was any confusion on our part.
